Microwave Problems We Fix
- No heat (turns on but doesn't cook) — failed magnetron, high-voltage diode, or HV capacitor. We test safely with proper discharging procedure — this is not a DIY job.
- Door switches — the #1 cause of "microwave is totally dead." Three switches stacked in series; any one failing kills the unit.
- Blown fuse — line fuse or thermal fuse. Usually a symptom of something else, so we troubleshoot the cause too.
- Turntable won't turn — coupler, motor, or stuck drive bushing.
- Control panel unresponsive — membrane keypad or control board.
- Vent fan won't run / runs constantly (over-the-range units) — thermostat or control board.
When We'll Tell You to Just Replace It
Low-end countertop microwaves almost never justify a magnetron repair — the cost of the part and labor approaches a new unit, and we'll be honest about that. Built-in and over-the-range units almost always do justify repair because of the cabinetry and venting work involved in swapping them out.
